In 1993 we started writing the songs, mostly in the rehearsal room by jamming a lot. They were almost finished in 1995, when we decided to put an end to it. Very unfortunate of course, not only because the band stopped, but especially because there were eight songs that we had put so much time and energy into. It was not until 2011 that we got together again under the name Structure Seven. With this band we recorded two of those songs, and decided to call it a day again in 2014. In 2015, the project got back on track with new musicians, except for yours truly. After we recorded most of the songs in 2016/2017, the final vocals of Annelieke Vleugel aka Äleria were recorded in 2023. Now the album “Dysphoria” is born with eight progressive metal and rock songs, superbly performed and executed by the musicians, engineers, art designers, and all who contributed to this success. Many thanks everyone! Today "The Sadness Of The Executioner" complements Project Eyestare.
This song in particular was the reason to start this project in 2014. Originally there was no lyrics on this song, but Henrike let herself go during a recording session with a great result. It took a while, but then you have something! Enjoy listening to all six songs and let us know what you think in a comment or a like. Recording session December 19th 2016
In this video you will see some hard working musicians and a recording engineer.
After doing a couple of takes, drummer Ric Brand wasn’t satisfied with the result, so we decided to have a break. After that everything went well, as this video shows. I hope you will enjoy and share this video as much as you like. Henri
Initially “The Wicked Will Conquer” was called “Practising Ground”, but because Annelieke felt like doing new vocals and create new lyrics as well, we decided for this name change.
Not that it does matter a lot, but now you know it. :) Annelieke wrote great new vocal lines and lyrics, and her voice sounds killer as well. Now it feels like this song has come alive, and I’m very proud to present it to you. As for the music I was the one who came up with the main ideas for this song. I remember I was inspired by the the band Laaz Rockit, a metal band from the early nineties. They tended to have very uptempo riffs, which went fluently from one to the other, without changing the dynamics, hard to describe, but I liked it. I was also very inspired by Rush and Metallica at that time, especially a song from the album Master of Puppets; “Disposable Heroes”. I borrowed the idea of just one really nice, fat sounding distorted guitar, that leads the way through the song. I also added some more progressive ideas, the parts that sound a bit like Rush on their album Counterparts. I like that album, and also its guitar sounds a lot. Alex Lifeson's way of playing is very unique and inspiring. In that way you could say this song is a blend of those three bands. I love it when it’s strange. ;) I’d like to thank Sebastiaan, Ric and Annelieke for their outstanding performances, and everyone who supported Project Eyestare. Like the previous video of Firesong, this one also captured Berthus, Sebastiaan and me in one shot.
Unfortunately the camera did not capture Ric en Henrike, but both have been captured by the microphones. Especially for this video I made a remix with the original guitar track, as played on the site, despite the fact that some imperfections are audible. I think this video shows the passion and fun we had during this recording session. Hope you enjoy and share this video as much as you like.
This video was shot during the recording session at Franky's Recording Kitchen in Nieuwleusen (NL) on December 19th 2016.
Everyone involved was captured by one camera by accident. Also some footage of recording the vocals and the guitar solo is added. Please feel free to share as much as you like. |
