Initially “The Wicked Will Conquer” was called “Practising Ground”, but because Annelieke felt like doing new vocals and create new lyrics as well, we decided for this name change.
Not that it does matter a lot, but now you know it. :) Annelieke wrote great new vocal lines and lyrics, and her voice sounds killer as well. Now it feels like this song has come alive, and I’m very proud to present it to you. As for the music I was the one who came up with the main ideas for this song. I remember I was inspired by the the band Laaz Rockit, a metal band from the early nineties. They tended to have very uptempo riffs, which went fluently from one to the other, without changing the dynamics, hard to describe, but I liked it. I was also very inspired by Rush and Metallica at that time, especially a song from the album Master of Puppets; “Disposable Heroes”. I borrowed the idea of just one really nice, fat sounding distorted guitar, that leads the way through the song. I also added some more progressive ideas, the parts that sound a bit like Rush on their album Counterparts. I like that album, and also its guitar sounds a lot. Alex Lifeson's way of playing is very unique and inspiring. In that way you could say this song is a blend of those three bands. I love it when it’s strange. ;) I’d like to thank Sebastiaan, Ric and Annelieke for their outstanding performances, and everyone who supported Project Eyestare.
